OUR STORY |
Southern Foods will continue to succeed in the
foodservice industry with the help of our
customers, business partners and dedicated
co-workers. Southern Foods has a philosophy of
being customer driven with a personal touch. We
work hard each day at anticipating the
customer's needs and then quickly acting on
them.
Southern Foods in an independently owned,
full-line foodservice distributor based in
Bowling Green, Kentucky and a member of an
integrated nationwide distribution system that
includes a cooperative purchasing program (UniPro
Foodservice). |

|
The company that we know as Southern Foods began
business as Bowling Green Frozen Foods in
January of 1956 as a combination foodservice and
retail food distributor. The current owners
purchased Bowling Green Frozen Foods in 1983 and
Cummings Produce in 1985. Also in 1985, the
company began operating as Southern Foods
because this name better reflected the breadth
of the product line.
Because of the better than industry growth in
the late 1980's and the 1990's, Southern Foods
moved in May 2000 to its fifth location in the
south industrial park off Nashville Road in
Bowling Green, 21 acres at 117 Mitch McConnell
Way. Our new state-of-the-art distribution
center has increased efficiency and
productivity. This new distribution center was
designed to allow for multiple expansions with
the future needs of the company in mind. New
facility features include: five temperature
controlled coolers for produce quality,
refrigerated dock and holding area, PC-based
monitoring system for temperature control,
additional warehouse slots, a restaurant
equipped test kitchen, and a fully equipped
training room.
Examples of our customers are restaurants,
healthcare facilities, convenience stores, and
hotels. We have over 6,500 products that
include fresh, dry, frozen, and refrigerated
grocery products, cleaning supplies, paper
goods, equipment, and tabletop and kitchen
utensils. We not only sell and deliver these
products, we provide resources to our customers.
For example, we have a trained culinary chef, a
dietician, and merchandising specialists that
can offer menu and presentation suggestions to
customers. We service the equipment that we
sell. We perform chemical tests so that your
cleaning needs are met. We offer inventory
control suggestions and food safety training.
